The Office of Energy Resources and the Drive Rhode Island to Vehicle Electrification are sponsoring a  “Drive Clean Rhode Island – Ride and Drive” electric vehicle and clean energy fair on June 4th at Fort Adams State Park in Newport, RI.  Newport Solar will be hosting an information table at this event to highlight the synergies between Solar Panels and Electric Vehicles.  In addition, this event will coincide with the World Match Racing Tour!  This sailing event will have exciting close to shore catamaran match racing, viewable from Fort Adams.

The Drive Clean Rhode Island – Ride and Drive event will focus on educating people about the economic and environmental benefits of electric vehicles.  At the Drive Clean Rhode Island event, attendees will have the opportunity to drive an electric vehicle!  The following electric vehicle makes will be available to drive: Tesla, Volkswagen, Nissan, and Chevrolet.

The Drive Clean Rhode Island – Ride and Drive event will also feature the solar installers that participated in the recent Solarize Aquidneck Island Program.  Stop by our table to learn about solar photovoltaic systems and the incentive options for solar in Rhode Island.  Keeping in theme with the “hands on” nature of this event, our table will also include a display of some of the components that we install in addition to a cell phone charging station!

By purchasing an electric vehicle, Rhode Island residents can reduce their transportation carbon footprint.  By producing their electricity with a solar PV system, homeowners effectively eliminate their transportation carbon footprint.  A solar PV installation is a very effective (and green!) way to help offset the electricity load generated when charging an electric vehicle.

With the current incentive options for solar and electric vehicles in RI, now is a great time for residents to consider jumping on the Green Wave!  The “DRIVE” (Driving Rhode Island to Vehicle Electrification) Program, administered by the state Office of Energy Resources, is currently offering rebates for the purchase of an electric vehicle.
